Newsworthy event (Main event)
|
1. In the weeks leading to Mother's
Day, 33-year-old Aya (not her real name) she lost her mother because of the
corona virus.
|
2. There are nearly two million
confirmed cases of coronavirus in 185 countries and more than 120,000 people
have died.
|
|
3. The Cannes film festival will not take
place “in its original form” this year, due to the coronavirus pandemic.
|
|
Background event (Elaboration)
|
1. Aya's mother was among Egypt's first
10 coronavirus deaths. Even though her mother had been poorly for a week, Aya
never thought this would be the end. Aya's mother was taken to a quarantine
hospital in Helwan district, south of Cairo, one day before her death after
testing positive for Covid-19. The 69-year-old had been at a private hospital
since Monday of that week, when she first tested negative for coronavirus
before repeating the test a couple of days later. Not being able to say goodbye
was not the only challenge for Aya. On the same day of Aya's mother's death,
all prayers and sermons were suspended across the country. All mosques were
ordered to shut down as well. So, Aya found herself forced to perform the
funeral prayers inside the hospital's mortuary.
After her mother's death, Aya's father was admitted to
the same quarantine hospital, as he tested positive for Covid-19. Her father
made a recovery and returned home this past weekend. Although neither Aya nor
her brother tested positive, they both had to stay in isolation.
|
2. The virus is spreading rapidly in
many countries and the death toll is still climbing - but the majority of
people are recovering from the infection. The country with the highest number
of cases is the US, according to figures collated by Johns Hopkins
University. With about 580,000 confirmed cases, it has nearly seven times the
official number recorded in China. China's official death toll from the
outbreak is just over 3,300 - but the US, Italy, Spain, France and UK have
each recorded more than 10,000 deaths. Critics of the Chinese government,
however, have questioned whether the country's official numbers can be
trusted. The outbreak was declared a global pandemic by the World Health
Organization (WHO) on 11 March. The true figure for the number of people with
coronavirus is thought to be much higher as many of those with milder
symptoms have not been tested and counted.
|
|
3. Organisers first postponed the
festival last month, saying that they would aim to stage it in June or July
this year. But in an updated statement, they said that plan was now “no
longer an option” after France extended its lockdown measures this week. They
did not elaborate on what the alternatives could be but said they hoped
"to communicate promptly”. The prestigious festival was originally
scheduled to take place in the south of France from 12 to 23 May. When the
festival was first postponed, its president, Pierre Lescure, said he was
“reasonably optimistic” it would still go ahead this year. But on Monday,
French President Emmanuel Macron said the country’s lockdown would be
extended until 11 May, and that public events could not be held until
mid-July at the earliest.

Comments
|
- I'm sorry to
hear that. However, no one is okay after separation.
- Yeah, this
outbreak spreads very fast all over the world. The only thing we can do is to
stay at home to minimize the spread of this virus.
- That's better
than the more people who are infected with the corona virus after the
festival is over.

Newsworthy event (Main event)
|
1. Now, Liam Payne has dropped the
strongest hint yet that the group will reunite to mark their 10th
anniversary.
|
2. Liam Payne and Alesso managed to
record their new single Midnight before coronavirus restrictions came in
across Europe and the US.
|
|
3. Entertainment and event
professionals have been helping turn the Principality Stadium into a
2,000-bed hospital to treat coronavirus patients
|
|
Background event (Elaboration)
|
1. The boy band formed on The X Factor
in the UK in July 2010. The group went on to sell more than 50 million
records around the world, with songs like What Makes You Beautiful, Best Song
Ever and Story Of My Life. Things started to unravel when Zayn Malik quit in
the middle of a world tour in 2015, citing stress. The rest of the band went
on hiatus after promoting their fifth album Made In The AM in February 2016,
and the break has now lasted for more than four years. In the meantime, all
five singers have launched solo projects with varying degrees of success.
Fans have longed for a reunion, and questions about their hiatus crop up in
almost every interview the individual members give. Whether all five members
would put the past behind them for the band's 10th anniversary, however,
remains the big question. An olive branch was extended earlier this week,
when Tomlinson, Styles, Payne and Horan all re-followed Malik on Twitter.
Malik has yet to return the favour - but with the anniversary due on 23 July,
the coronavirus lockdown will almost certainly disrupt any developing plans
for new music or live shows.
|
2. Unfortunately they didn't make a
music video before lockdown - but they decided not to let social distancing
get in the way of that. Liam got on the phone to Conor Butler, a video
producer who's made behind-the-scenes videos for him in the past. Making
music videos usually involves long days and big budgets - but this one was a
much simpler process. There was one person holding the camera in Alesso's
studio and another at Liam's house - both the people they are in lockdown
with. When it came to what fans would see in the video, Conor only had their
two houses to play with. He's good friends with Liam, so knew the layout of
his house. But even though there are no exotic locations in the video,
pop-star houses tend to be quite nice and the video is still a polished
production.
|
|
3. Theatre and lighting technicians who
usually build festival sites and TV sets are among those helping to put power
into beds and create kitchens. Company director Tom Feierabend said they were
asked because they construct festival sites and suchlike at speed. He had
been "waiting for the call" since China started building hospitals.
The 30-year-old said: "When a hospital needs to be built in a stadium
that's not just a big empty room, it's the theatre, TV, and events industry
that steps up." Mr Feierabend, from Cardiff, said the fifth floor of
what is now named the Dragon's Heart Hospital was complete. Festival
electricians were building power distribution systems while catering firms
were building kitchens, feeding workers, and gearing up to feed staff and
patients.

- I liked this
band a few years ago before they went on hiatus. And I can't wait if it's
true they will reunion. I hope at their reunion, they will bring some songs.
- WOW, Liam Payne
and Alesso gave their best for their single even in this situation.
- I hope the
construction of the hospital is completed quickly. In order to accommodate
more patients and help medical personnel.

1. How
to take care of your skin in quarantine
2. 'Tiger King' gets the comic book
treatment
3. Scythes and monsters: Indonesian
artists teach coronavirus care

Newsworthy event (Main event)
|
1. There are chances you are exposed to
less harsh sun and use less makeup--or even no makeup at all, which is good
for your skin. However, you might also expose yourself to more air
conditioning, eat less healthy food and consume more alcoholic beverages to
cope with the quarantine blues.
|
2. Tiger King, the compelling true crime
series set in the world of private zoos and their eccentric owners, is
getting the comic book treatment.
|
|
3. A group of Indonesian artists has turned
to wall murals to help stem a growing number of infections.
|
|
Background event (Elaboration)
|
1. Heather D. Rogers, owner of Modern
Dermatology in Seattle, in the United States, said that you need to take care
of your whole self to keep your skin healthy and glowing in quarantine.
This ways to take care of your skin amid the
pandemic.Get enough sleep. Sleeping is imperative for your overall healthy
life.
If you don’t get enough sleep, your body will release
more cortisol, the stress hormone that can cause acne or psoriasis. Work out
routinely. Working out will help your body to burn cortisone, which is a good
way to reduce stress and help keep your skin clear. Wear moisturizer. People
would sit around in air-conditioned rooms more often than in pre-coronavirus
times. This can cause your skin to be exposed to dry air for a longer time.
Using a humidifier in the room where you sit most often in the house. Don’t
go too far with skincare. You should brace yourself with an experimental skin
care routine now that you have so much time on your hands. Moisturize your
hands. The number-one COVID-19 preventive measure is to wash your hands, so
naturally by now you will be washing your hands more often than you used to.
However, always remember to moisturize your hands after washing.
|
2. Tidalwave Productions said on
Tuesday it has added the story to its Infamous series of pop culture comic
books after the Netflix television series became a worldwide phenomenon.
Tiger King, the extraordinary tale of flamboyant Oklahoma zoo keeper Joe
Exotic, his rivalry with Florida big cat rescue activist Carole Baskin and
his imprisonment for hiring a hitman to try to kill her, was watched by some
34.3 million viewers in the first 10 days after it was released on Netflix on
March 20, according to Nielsen data. Tiger King's immense popularity
coincided with Americans settling into stay-at-home mode to help slow the
spread of the coronavirus during which television viewership has soared.
|
|
3. The Jakarta-area artists saw orders
for their work dry up as the pandemic hit and decided to use that extra time
to paint the walls of their neighborhoods and educate the public about the
deadly disease. "It's easier to educate people through pictures." So
Listanto painted a globe being attacked by the virus with the words
"Save the world". Another had a darker tone featuring a cat-like
monster carrying a scythe with the words "Covid-19". Fellow mural
artist Yahya -- who like many Indonesians goes by one name -- was inspired to paint a colorful montage
advising people to stay at home. Through this work they're urging people to
stay at home and to appreciate health workers. They tried to make the murals
colorful and bright so they can radiate positive energy and keep people
optimistic in this difficult time,

1. Production of TV show 'Terrace House' on
Netflix was being halted due to the coronavirus outbreak.
|
2. SM Entertainment and Naver are
teaming up to launch a new concert streaming service, Beyond Live.
|
|
3. Raya And The Last Dragon' joins
other major Disney releases that have been delayed due to the COVID-19 health
crisis.
|
|
Background event (Elaboration)
|
1. Fans of Japanese reality TV show
Terrace House will have to find new ways to pass the time in self-isolation
after staff said on its Twitter account that production of the latest season
on Netflix was being halted due to the coronavirus outbreak. "We are suspending
the current production of Terrace House Tokyo 2019-2020, giving the safety
and health of cast and staff top priority," they said. The unscripted
reality show featuring three men and three women living under the same roof
has gained an international following since being streamed on Netflix from
2015. The latest series is shot in a luxury house in Tokyo, which has become
the focus of Japan's coronavirus outbreak. Japan has declared a state of
emergency for some regions including Tokyo, and the public are being
encouraged to stay away from shared spaces. The halt came as a blow to
viewers who look to the cast for light relief from the real world. Others
lamented but supported the decision.
|
2. The premiere, featuring superm, is
to air April 26. The two companies have signed a memorandum of understanding
in an effort to expand their presence in the global entertainment industry,
SM said in a statement Tuesday. The concert streaming platform, which is set
to launch sometime in mid-April, will first be available within V Live,
Naver’s existing video platform. And as the name suggests, the service seeks
to go beyond merely broadcasting concerts but provide digital concert content
optimized for the online world, including live chats between stars and fans
as well as “digital light sticks”. The two companies will also work together
on Naver’s big data-based global community platform “Fanship” as the
entertainment giant offers its expertise in production and finding global
talent, with plans to produce original video content.
|
|
3. The release of Disney's Raya And The
Last Dragon, which is set in Southeast Asia and written by Malaysian-born,
United States-based screenwriter Adele Lim, has been pushed back to March
2021. The movie was originally set to premiere in November this year, but has
been postponed due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, which has caused cinemas
around the world to close their doors. Raya And The Last Dragon was first
announced at Disney's D23 convention in 2018, during which Lim, who co-wrote
the smash hit Crazy Rich Asians, took to the stage together with producer
Osnat Shurer (who produced Moana) and the film's actors Cassandra Steele and
Awkwafina, to announce the project. The movie is set in the fictional land of
Kumandra, which Shurer says is in "a reimagined Earth inhabited by an
ancient civilization that venerated the mythical dragons for their power and
their wisdom".
